International Tiger Day Issue Sept 2007
Text Only Version

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 IS 8th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL
TIGER DAY

“The Tiger deserves its day of celebration. As a symbol of power and protection, its images have been widely used and exploited, yet it is on the brink of extinction. The cultural symbol of China - the Chinese Tiger is now the most endangered tiger in the world. Fewer than 100 remain. We need the international community to come to its rescue, now.”
-Li Quan, FOUNDER, SAVE CHINA’S TIGERS

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY
On Sept. 23, 2000, a few dozen school-kids and their parents dressed up as tigers to parade through Vladivostok aiming to educate people about the dangers facing tigers. Since then the last Sunday in September has become a rallying point for tiger conservation efforts around the world, creating awareness and inspiring public festivities, displays of tiger affection and promoting tiger conservation.

Here’s a great way to celebrate Tiger Day:
Make a donation to help save the ancestor subspecies of all tigers: the South China Tiger. Critically endangered, genetically weakened and written off by some conservation groups as ‘functionally extinct’. It’s your choice, write them off, or write a cheque: http://english.savechinastigers.org/donatenow
