Week 223 (30 November - 6 December 2007)
Cathay reunited with TigerWoods; TigerWoods goes hungry
At the beginning of the week, 327 was put together with Cathay. He kept avoiding Cathay and they didn’t communicate at all. On Monday morning, when 327 began to smell around the ground, Cathay came from behind and suddenly jumped onto his back. That started a big fight. Although 327 roared loudly he looked terrified and was afraid of Cathay. He showed a submissive posture. Finally Cathay went out of the cage. Neither of them were hurt during the fight.
It was decided to put Cathay and TigerWoods together again. On Monday afternoon, Madonna was introduced into the 4 ha camp. TigerWoods was introduced into the quarantine camp on Tuesday morning. When he entered the quarantine camp, Cathay was busy eating a springbok’s head. She did not even realize he was coming. TigerWoods first smelt around a little bit, then he paced along 327’s cage for a while, before finally going to Cathay and rubbing heads. After Cathay had finished eating, she ran to TigerWoods. They played briefly and then Cathay went to the 9 ha camp. She seemed very happy to go back to the bigger camp and scent marked and flehmened there. She walked to the river and then came back to the corner of the quarantine camp and scratched the tree trunks, before she finally disappeared. Meanwhile TigerWoods spent a long time pacing in front of 327’s cage. He was finally attracted by the vehicle and went back to the 9 ha camp. The gate between the 9 ha camp and the quarantine camp was closed. He then sat near the fence for a while before going to the shade under the tree where he fell asleep. The whole meeting process seemed very peaceful and quiet.
In the afternoon, a springbok was shot. 2 back legs were cut off and thrown into the 9 ha camp for TigerWoods and Cathay. 2 front legs were cut off and thrown into the 4 ha camp for Madonna. The rest of the carcass was put in the quarantine camp for 327. Seeing that 327 got the carcass made TigerWoods quite excited and he kept pacing along the fence of the quarantine camp, ignoring his own food. As a result, after Cathay had finished her food she took TigerWoods’ leg away. TigerWoods didn’t eat anything. He finally slowly walked to the river, looking very disappointed. TigerWoods only got food again on Wednesday night.
