Week 360 ( 16th to 22nd July 2010 )
Laohu Valley takes a break
We have been having a rollercoaster ride as far as the weather is concerned. The week started off with freezing mornings and not better afternoons and from there we progressed to delightful mornings and hot afternoons only to return to the freezing conditions that we should have been having this time of year.
The tigers were taking a break this week, electing to lie quietly at their various gates and fences. Feeding time became the highlight of all their days, not only 327’s. But apart from a tussle or two over carcasses even feeding passed without any hitches. King Henry and Princess supplied a little action on one day. They were both lying at the gate to the front section waiting to sink their teeth into dinner. Once we had opened the gate King Henry rushed through and as usual Princess hesitated other side the gate. Once Max, Sophie and I had moved away a metre or two she hung around until her brother chuffed the OK and only then did she cross the threshold. King Henry in the interim had dragged the carcass off some distance. Whilst he was licking it clean she waltzed over to Catkins fence but changed her mind halfway and then dashed over to the carcass. King Henry heard her pounding towards him and dashed off in the opposite direction. She chased him for five steps and then made her way to the carcass to continue where her brother had left off. He lazed around at the half hectare’s gate watching us offload the boy’s dinner. He was as excited about their dinner as they were and it struck him that his was waiting. He then took off and Princess left.
JenB took the opportunity whilst they were in the Mini Camp to climb onto the pole shelter and catch a tan whilst the others tried to entice him down. He of course only left when he was good and ready.
